Our Mission

serving salads at the food pantry

BedStuy Campaign Against Hunger is a non-profit organization, working vigorously to end hunger in the Bedford-Stuyvesant / Brownsville / Ocean Hill neighborhoods of Brooklyn. We are located in Community Board Districts 3 and 16 in Brooklyn.

BedStuy Campaign Against Hunger serves this community by offering emergency food, and other social services including Food Stamp screenings, fitness classes and enrollment for publicly-supported health insurance.

The Mission of BedStuy Campaign Against Hunger is to end hunger by distributing food and empowering families through information and support, which will give both strength and dignity to the community.

shopping at the food pantry

BedStuy Campaign Against Hunger is unique amongst the food pantries in Brooklyn, because it is a "supermarket style" pantry. Inspired by West Side Campaign Against Hunger, our "supermarket style" pantry allows customers to select for themselves both fresh fruits and vegetables and food items from the pantry shelves, instead of receiving a pre-packaged pantry bag. Each month approximately 6,000 community residents receive enough food for nine (9) nutritious meals from our program.

So as to better empower our clients, we added a social services office (staffed with a full-time social worker) in 2008, where we are now able to refer our clients to various agencies for finding jobs, getting housing, obtaining welfare benefits, and receiving legal aid.

We are open five days a week, Monday – Friday with extended evening hours on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays to accommodate the full-time, yet still underemployed, customers who visit our pantry.
